Join our Energy Team at L&Q:
L&Q is one of the UK’s largest housing associations and providers of social and affordable homes. We house around 250,000 people primarily across Greater London and Greater Manchester. Our purpose is simple – to provide social homes and landlord services that everyone can be proud of.
We have an exciting opportunity for an Adoption Engineer to join our Energy team, reporting to the District Heating Design and Adoption Manager.
As the energy sector evolves and new regulations reshape the future of heat networks, this role offers the chance to make a real impact. You'll play a key part in ensuring the energy infrastructure we adopt is safe, compliant and built to deliver long-term value for our residents.
Heat networks are entering a whole new era of regulation. As our Adoption Engineer, you'll be the technical authority who decides whether a heat, EV or PV asset is fit to join our 260+ scheme portfolio – protecting residents and the business from costly, non-compliant infrastructure. Working closely with Asset Management, Development, contractors, consultant and Ofgem auditors.
You'll lead technical assessment, due diligence and formal sign-off of heat network assets being adopted into the L&Q Energy portfolio, translating Ofgem's design, build and technical assurance standards into clear, enforceable specifications.
With over 260 heat network schemes and a January 2027 Ofgem authorisation deadline, every asset we adopt has to be right first time – your sign-off is the single point of assurance that stops non-compliant infrastructure entering our portfolio.
If this sounds like you, we would love for you to apply!
Your impact in the role:
- Assess and certify heat, EV and PV assets for adoption; specify remedial works on legacy and developer-built assets; witness and sign off commissioning tests on metering, controls and plant; compile technical evidence packs for Ofgem audits.
- Energy SLT, Asset Management, Development, Compliance, contractors, developers, consultants and Ofgem auditors.
- Your sign-off directly protects the Ofgem authorisation deadline and safeguards multi-million pound capital investment decisions across the adoption pipeline.
What you'll bring:
- A degree in engineering or a relevant technical discipline, with at least 5 years' post-qualification experience in heat network design, commissioning or technical assurance.
- Knowledge of district heating systems, technical standards and Ofgem technical assurance requirements, with strong project coordination and contractor management skills.
- The confidence to provide professional technical guidance to contractors, developers and non-technical colleagues, and to influence decisions outside direct line authority.
If you require any reasonable adjustments at any stage during this process, including application stage, please email lqcareers@lqgroup.org.uk
